As London celebrates the 150th anniversary of the world’s first tube network this week, it is worth remembering it now serves more than a billion journeys a year, including ferrying delegates around the capital’s major venues and hotels.

The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC) has followed the decision by its neighbouring west London council to approve plans to redevelop the Earls Court and West Kensington Opportunity Area.

Earls Court owner Capital and Counties (CapCo) has insisted significant progress is being made towards the site’s redevelopment in its latest interim management statement.

One of two local councils accused of unlawfully adopting a planning guideline for the redevelopment of Earls Court has committed to vigorously defending its actions in court.

A High Court judge has called for a hearing into the policy document underpinning Earls Court's redevelopment after local residents issued a legal challenge against the councils who approved it.
