UBM has moved a step closer towards the acquisition of US organiser Advanstar. The American firm, valued at US$972 million (£599 million) specialises in fashion, licensing, life sciences and powersports events.

Event industry veterans Simon Burton and Nick James have sold their portfolio of events and publications to Worthington Media Portfolio, a subsidiary of the Worthington Group.

The ITE Group has said first-half pre-tax profit more than quadrupled due to a combination of timing difference in biennial events and good organic growth boosting revenue.

UBM has said that a “foreign exchange headwind” and the later running of shows in the year helped contribute to lower event revenues in the opening quarter of 2014.
