SCOTS FIRST MINISTER SPEAKS AT AECC WIND EVENT

Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond, has used The Scottish Offshore Wind Conference and Exhibition to pledge the Scottish Government’s support for alternative energy.

The two-day event, which concludes today at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), was attended by European business leaders in oil and gas renewables.

The event attracted more than 450 delegates and 43 exhibiting companies, an improvement on last year according to AECC MD Brian Horsburgh. “In the last year there have been major investment decisions from many companies to develop their offshore business in Scotland. We are delighted to bring such a high calibre event to the city. We hope to continue this relationship in the future.”

Director of business development for Scottish Renewables, Calum McCallum, said the number of international energy companies based in Aberdeen made it “the ideal location for this large energy conference”.

This was a major factor in the AECC winning the 2012 World Heavy Oil Congress, which it hopes will attract more than 1,000 international delegates discussing heavy oil technology development.
