Exhibitions at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) contributed £104m to the Glasgow economy and £51m to Scotland as a whole in the last financial year.
New figures released by the SECC examined the period of April 2010 to March 2011, within which the venue hosted 218 events which brought 1.3m visitors and 26,000 exhibitors to the city.
Concerts brought £166m to Glasgow and £61m to Scotland, and national and international conferences brought £127m to the city and £135m to Scotland.
“These economic impact figures not only show the contribution the SECC makes to both the Scottish and local economies, but it also demonstrates our full commitment in supporting the city and its wide range of local businesses, through the large number of events and visitors we host each year,” said SECC chief executive John Sharkey.
The figures were compiled by auditor and analyst KPMG.
One of the new events at the venue this year was Media 10’s Ideal Home Show Scotland launch.
