UK–based exhibition acquisition broker Mayfield Media Strategies has joined forces with analyst firm Business Strategies Group (BSG) to help exhibition organisers in Asia sell their businesses to international parties.

Mayfield MD Steve Monnington said the partnership marks its first step towards helping Asian organisers overcome the often “daunting” task of selling to a foreign buyer. Hong Kong-based BSG provides market intelligence and strategy services covering Asian business media, information and events.

Clients will have access to a valuation, analysis of potential purchasers, preparation of an information memorandum, price negotiation and assistance with the legal and due diligence process.

“We have been planning to establish our business in Asia for some time and are delighted to be working with BSG MD Mark Cochrane and the team at BSG,” Monnington said. “The exhibition business has always crossed borders, but in recent years we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of international acquisitions.

“Combined with Mark’s extensive knowledge of the Asian exhibition market, we are confident of delivering results.”

In a recent report for UFI, BSG reported that the Asia trade fair market expanded by 4.3 per cent in 2010 and doubled in size over the past six years. Show organisers in Asia sold 15.5m square metres in 2010, compared with 8.1m sqm in 2004.

“Mayfield has unmatched experience as an acquisition broker for the exhibition industry – particularly in emerging markets,” Cochrane added. “The exhibition industry in Asia is the fastest growing and most dynamic worldwide.”

Mayfield recently brokered Reed Exhibition's acquisition of the All-Energy exhibition and conference from Media Generation Events.
