Former UBM UK portfolio director Mark Snell has been appointed to the helm of UBM’s US Canon Events business.

Snell will succeed Kevin O’Keefe as senior vice-president and executive director of UBM Canon Events and be based on the west coast of the US. His new position follows a restructure of UBM Live and UBM Live UK into one UK business, which also saw Simon Parker appointed as the first MD of UBM Live UK.

Snell spent the last six years as group director of UBM Live’s international Customer Management and Air Traffic Control (ATC) business comprising of exhibitions, conferences, magazine titles, websites and awards programmes. Key shows under his supervision included E Commerce Expo, Technology for Marketing and Advertising and Call Centre Expo.

“I am delighted Mark is going to lead UBM Canon Events into its next phase of development,” UBM Live CEO Simon Fostersaid. “Combining Canon’s market-leading brands with UBM’s global reach and infrastructure represents a tremendous growth opportunity and one which Mark is uniquely qualified to lead.

“Mark’s appointment is another example of how international career opportunities at UBM help us attract and retain professionals of the highest calibre.”

In a statement, Snell highlighted UBM Canon’s reputation in events for the advanced manufacturing sector as a major strength. Snell will work alongside UBM Canon Events’ US portfolio director Joshua Dome and senior VP and executive director of UBM Canon Publishing Stephen Corrick.

“I am eager to lead the company through its next stage of development and thank Kevin for handing over the baton when the company is in such a strong position,” Snell said. “I look forward to collaborating closely with both the UBM Live management team, the wider UBM businesses and especially to working with the company’s talented employees to grow the business and provide Canon’s customers with world-class events.”

Snell has 23 years’ exhibition industry experience including stints with Blenheim, Miller Freeman and CMP.
