UBM Built Environment has launched a new trade event at Excel London and complementary online platform to focus on the integration of interior design and technology.
The DX show will take place alongside UBM’s first Interiors London show from 19 to 21 May 2013. The organiser said DX will have a “reinvigorated” exhibition space and feature five exclusive commissions and installations created in partnership with technology providers and architectural groups such as Softroom.
Target visitors include architects and clients, interior designers, specifiers, retailers, developers and builders, design and government bodies and hotel and leisure operators. Exhibitors will be limited to 150 and space will be sold in packages of up to 60sqm.
UBM has also launched DX-London.com as an online content portal and industry network, which will be supported by UBM titles BD, Building and Property Week plus global trend forecasters Stylus.
The co-founder of 100% Design and Tent London, Ian Rudge, has been appointed event director of DX and will be supported by Research Studios’ Neville Brody and Ab Rogers Design.
“It’s hard to think of a more exciting time for interiors,” Rudge said. “Design and technology are evolving at a dizzying rate, enabling us to design truly beautiful, sustainable, smart products and spaces that are future-proof in every sense.
“DX is an event and a website that will bring it all together, with integrity and without compromise.”
A May timeframe was chosen because it sits at the end of the international show cycle, Rudge said. As part of its alternative approach to the trade show floor, exhibitors will be housed in pre-built, fully-fitted DX pods. UBM also plans to run DX Labs and a speaker programme.
DX will be co-located with the first Interiors London show. According to UBM, the debut Interiors London will be a boutique version of its annual show and focus on the mid- to high-end contract and design-led retail sector.
UBM rebranded and introduced new sections of this year’s Interiors UK exhibition at The NEC in January.
Interiors UK brand director Tony Crinion said it will hand-pick exhibitors for the London event and will target international buyers.
