The new Holiday at Home Show has confirmed its first edition will take place at Manchester Central in February 2013.
Organiser UK Consumer Shows said it had considered EventCity by Trafford Park but was unable to secure dates in the first quarter of the year. EventCity hosted its first Caravan and Motorhome Show along with Destinations, the Holiday and Travel Show, last January. The two shows return to EventCity from 17 to 20 January 2013.
UK Consumer Shows also considered launching in Liverpool but said potential exhibitors expressed a preference for Manchester as a more tried-and-tested location for exhibitions. The Holiday at Home Show will now be held from 16 to 17 February 2013.
The combination of three million people around the Manchester area, plus the city’s easy accessibility by train, air and car, made it a good destination for a consumer show, the organiser said.
“We have struck a great deal with Manchester Central that will allow us to retain the amazing low stand rates that we have already announced,” UK Consumer Shows said in a statement.
The Holiday at Home Show will focus on holiday opportunities across the UK and follows on from the UK Government’s £5m Visit England Campaign this year, encouraging people to take holidays locally rather than abroad. According to VisitBritain estimates, UK residents made 119m trips of one night or more during 2011.
The consumer event will cover caravans and camping, theme parks, hotels, coach holidays, outdoor pursuits, coastal resorts, hotels, and climbing and walking holidays.
UBM has moved a step closer towards the acquisition of US organiser Advanstar.
The American firm, valued at US$972 million (£599 million) specialises in fashion, licensing, life sciences and powersports events.
