The first London edition of ICHF Events’ Cake International show has claimed 14,000 visitors at Excel.

The cake decorating and baking show from 27 to 29 April fielded 80 exhibitors and was opened by the winner of The Great British Bake Off TV programme, Jo Wheatley. Features included Q&A sessions with Wheatley and guest chefs, a cake decorating competition for amateurs and professionals, workshops, demonstration theatres, an authors’ area, bakery theatre and chocolate making zone.

ICHF Events show organiser Simon Burns claimed cake decorating and baking has become a consumer phenomenon, and cited a 70 per cent rise in attendance to its 12-year-old Cake International show at The NEC over the past two years.

The organiser claimed its 14,000 visitors (unaudited) consisted of local enthusiasts as well as fans from Nigeria, Qatar, Kuwait, Canada and Thailand.

“We have had great success with the show in Birmingham and we have been really excited to be able to bring Cake International to London for the first time,” Burns said. “The shows are the biggest of their kind in the world and we see cake decorating and baking fans come thousands of miles to attend.

“The revival in home baking can clearly been seen through programmes like The Great British Bake Off and it was great that Jo was able to join us.”

The next Birmingham edition of Cake International runs from 9 to 11 November and is co-located with ICHF’s Crafts for Christmas, Hobbycrafts and Art Materials Live from 8 to 11 November. The brand will return for its second edition at Excel from 12 to 14 April 2013.

Launch organiser Exposure Live will launch its first Cake and Bake Show at Earls Court in September.
