QD restructure sees show cancellation in Glasgow

Scotland-based exhibition organiser QD Events has cancelled future editions of its Scottish Baby and Toddler Shows in Glasgow as part of a company restructure.

QD Events MD Fran McIntyre told EN the decision to exit the baby show market will allow the team to concentrate on consumer sectors currently being served through its Scottish Wedding and Scottish Caravan and Outdoor Leisure Shows. The last Scottish Baby and Toddler Show was held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow from 27 to 29 April.

At the same time, McIntyre flagged the organiser’s intention to step up its trade and business events portfolio through acquisitions, launches and partnerships.

“This decision will allow us to concentrate on the new ‘business-to-business’ opportunities both in Scotland and across the rest of the UK,” she said.

QD has also announced a series of staff changes following its restructure, which also saw six people made redundant.

Former sales manager for Scottish Wedding Shows, Angela Smith, has now been promoted to show manager, while Jill Wadge takes over as show manager of Base Glasgow, which will have its second outing this November. The conference-led event focuses on Glasgow’s efforts to reduce its carbon emissions by 30 per cent over the next 10 years.

The firm has also appointed former Blenheim and Emap (now Top Right Group) executive Gary Hughes as the new chair of the business. He replaces Jim Faulds.

QD launched its first London Pet Show at Olympia last May, attracting more than 13,000 visitors. The show has relocated to Earls Court 2 for its second edition from 12 to 13 May.
