New apps launched for event organisers

Two software developers have released customisable mobile app products this month targeting the events industry.

Propeller Mobile, the mobile division of communications agency Propeller Group, has launched a customisable app (pictured) for event and exhibition organisers called Event Engine. The new mobile product allows organisers to engage with event stakeholders via their iPhones, iPads, Android devices, Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices.

The first event using the Event Engine is The Specialist Media Show, taking place at ThinkTank, Birmingham on 24 May.

Propeller claims a key feature is the platform’s ability to provide a personalised experience via the ‘Event Genius’ feature. The app suggests event sessions to attend and exhibitors to visit according to a user’s stated areas of interest. Users can also check an up-to-date list of ‘trending’ sessions and plan accordingly.

In addition, users can tap into their online professional and social networks by authorising access to LinkedIn and Facebook.

“The app takes the risk out of events for visitors: They can see what’s on and who’s going to be there and duly interact, connect and plan their day,” MD of the Specialist Media Show Carolyn Morgan said.

Active Network has also announced its suite of Business Solutions mobile applications for event organisers, which it claims will allow organisers to produce their own apps for meetings and events of all sizes.

The Business Solutions suite includes Conference for large flagship conferences, RegOnline for attendee management solutions, StarCite SMM for strategic meetings management and event expense management, and the StarCite Supplier Marketplace for connecting events with suppliers.

Features include event scheduling, local attraction search, surveys, gamification, attendee-to-attendee messaging and QR code support. Participants can also use the app to engage with peers, speakers and exhibitors, while organisers can adjust apps to promote content, monitor events and track results in real-time. The offering was launched at the IMEX events trade show in Frankfurt on 22 May.

“In order to build lifetime value with customers andemployees, organisations need to think about meetings and events not just in terms of logistics and spend management, but in terms of long-term engagement,” senior vice-president for Business Solutions at Active Network Mobile JR Sherman said.

“Mobile is an intrinsic component to achieve that vision.”
