A team of enthusiastic athletes from Haymarket Exhibitions donned their running shoes and helmets to raise £3,500 for the Events for Namuwongo initiative.

Ten teams of three competed in the London Duathlon in Richmond Park, which consisted of a 10 kilometre run, 44km cycle and 5km run, on 9 September.

“I am so proud of the team for pulling together and completing their respective parts of the course, especially given the heat they had to content with on the day,” Haymarket Exhibitions MD Laura Biggs said.

“A brilliant time was had by all and we know that the money is going to a fantastic cause.”

The Events for Namuwongo initiative was launched by a group of events industry representatives earlier this year to improve living conditions in the slum Ugandan village. They hope to raise £400,000 over 2012/13 to fulfil their aims.

The first Events for Namuwongo fundraising charity dinner on 22 May raised £83,000 for the charity. To date, the initiative has raised more than £130,000.
