Record high for Manchester Comic Con

MCM Expo has reported a record high of visitors at its Manchester Comic Con held on 20 July at Manchester Central.
 
A total of 19,340 visitors (unaudited) attended the event, up from 11,300 in 2012.
 
“Last weekend's show also achieved a significant boost in advance ticket sales - a massive 138 percent higher than in 2012,” said MCM spokesman, David Axbey. "Due to the soaring popularity of the Manchester Comic Con, next year’s event will be extended to two days on 26-27 July 2014.”
 
The show featured special guests from movies, TV series and sci-fi shows, including British actor Warwick Davis, Michael Mando from Far Cry 3, Tom Hopper from Merlin and Gerran Howell from Young Dracula.
 
The organiser is expanding the series, already in London and Manchester to launch MCM Scotland Comic Con at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow on 7 September.

In addition, the MCM London Comic Con will use both sides of Excel for the first time, expanding its floor space from 25,000sqm to 34,000sqm in October this year.
 
The 2012 London Comic Con reported 70,200 visitors (unaudited).
