Sharing of global tourism responsibility at World Travel Market

Meetings and travel event World Travel Market (WTM) will launch WTM Responsible Tourism Day at this November’s show.

In light of the volcanic ash cloud and ongoing oil spill disaster, which demonstrate the vulnerability of the meetings industry, Responsible Tourism Day will focus on educating and inspiring the global industry to work towards environmental sustainability.

"While we are powerless to stop some catastrophes, they vividly illustrate to us all that we should be responsible for greener tourism and environmental awareness," says chairman of WTM, Fiona Jeffries. "It’s a universal issue which brings us together in a way nothing else can."

A schedule of speeches, debates, interviews and workshops will be available on 10 November, with a yet-to-be named CEO from a multi-national company facing questions from Stephen Sackur, presenter of the BBC current affairs programme HardTalk.

World Travel Market takes places 8 to 11 November at Excel, London.
