Royal Highland Show on track for biggest ever edition

Royal highland show exhibition business record

This year’s edition of the Scottish agricultural exhibition The Royal Highland Show is set to be the biggest ever.

As well as selling out all available exhibitor space, the 170th edition of the event is 10 per cent up on advanced tickets sales compared to the same point in 2009. Last year attracted 176,522 visitors in total, which is the current record.

"Since 2007, we’ve tried to communicate that the show isn’t just about combine harvesters and cows,” says show manager" David Dunsmuir. "With that in mind, we are also confident that those new visitors who came last year will bring friends and family this year."

Visitors are expected from 30 countries, including a large contingent of farmers from Norway and a group from Texas in the US.

"These figures show a returning confidence to the agricultural sector, which is vital to both the Scottish economy," adds Edinburgh city council’s economic development leader, Tom Buchanan.

The Royal Highland Show takes place 24 – 27 June 2010 at the Edinburgh Showground.
